Chaffee, Adna Romanza

Военный. В 19-летнем возрасте вступил добровольцем в кавалерийскую часть армии северян, через несколько недель стал сержантом, через год - первым сержантом [First Sergeant]. В 1863 приказом военного министра [Secretary of War] получил офицерское звание. К 1888 после участия в ряде войн с индейцами [Indian Wars] стал майором. В 1898 участвовал в Испано-американской войне [Spanish-American War] в должности бригадного генерала и генерал-майора добровольцев. В середине 1900 возглавил американский контингент в колониальных войсках западных стран в Китае при подавлении боксерского восстания, получил звание генерал-майора регулярной армии. Был командующим войсками США на Филиппинах, а в 1904-06 в звании генерал-лейтенанта был начальником штаба Сухопутных войск
